About McGreevy's

Considered by many as the “Birth place of Red Sox Nation” and “America’s 1st Sports Bar and Baseball Museum”, McGreevy’s 3rd Base Saloon is reopening after its disappearance from the Boston scene in 1920.   Back then, its founder, “Nuf Ced” McGreevy, led his group of rabid Red Sox fans, “the Royal Rooters”, in song as they led their Red Sox to victory with the fight song “Tessie”.

In 2004 “a modern day McGreevy” emerged in Ken Casey, the founder of the Boston-based band, the Dropkick Murphys.   A die-hard Sox fan, Casey and the Murphy’s revived McGreevy’s spirit with a modern version of “Tessie” that helped the Sox win their first World Championship in 86 years. And then of course after not being involved in ‘05 and ‘06 Casey’s good friend Jonathan Paplebon brought the band and their song “Shippin Up to Boston” back to Fenway and another World Series title followed in 07.

In 2008, Casey resurrected “McGreevy’s 3rd Base Saloon” in the heart of the city of Boston.   The result is an unmatched Irish Pub and sports bar experience where any member of Red Sox Nation can take a step back in time to see where it all began and rub elbows with current Sox stars like Papelbon himself. Featuring an exact replica of McGreevy’s original barroom it features actual photographs and baseball treasures that hung on the walls of the original watering hole.  The lighting fixtures that hang from the ceiling are even made from game used bats of   past and present Red Sox stars.

McGreevy’s is the place to be for great food and drink and the ultimate place to see any sporting event.   McGreevy’s even features Nuf Ced’s own great-grand niece pouring pints from behind the bar as she follows in the footsteps of the Red Sox Nation founder.

McGreevy’s original 3rd Base Saloon was known for decades as the place to be for Red Sox players and fans, and with the revival of the historic bar in 2008, that tradition continues where it left off in 1920.

    Saw that Farah. Thanks.

By the way, seeing you guys are a recreation of an old bar and all, and have some old beer stuff in there, you might want to check out our website:

    www.rhodeislandbreweryhistory.com

I've been intersted in old breweries for thirty years. We collect stuff from those in Rhode Island. Just a natural blend when you combine it with the Sox (Lots of beer related Sox stuff on there).

By the way, a friend of mine may still have a Highland Spring Brewery Porcelain sign for sale. This sign (probably not the exact sign, but one that is exactly like it) hung on the outside wall of both 3rd Base locations and is featured on that photo of mine you have posted. You guys should really consider picking it up!!!!
    Let me know.

    Hello Nuf Ced,

Yes, I do have that pin and a bunch of other pins, pennants, scorecards, photos, etc. from Nuf Ced's era. The collection's not huge, but it keeps me off the streets. Been up to the bar a couple of times. Great place. LOVE the display case on the right. Nothing better than Sox and beer.

Hi Greg, this is Farah, from McGreevy's. We just launched the new homepage today. There's a Guest Book section there for fans and visitors. It'd be aweesome if you have any pics relevant to Nuf Ced's era if you could email it through there with a quick description & we'd post it on the website.
      Regards,
      Farah / McGreevy's.

        Hi Farah,

Sent some more pics over. Pennants from 1912, 1915 and 1916/1918. Also some press pins from 15 and 16. Some sheet music from 1903 and 1912 and some scorecards from 05, 07, 14, WS 15. Also, a 1903 RR pinback button and photo of the 3rd base that I already saw you had copied and have hanging on the front wall. Very nice.....

Hope to be up there Friday after the game.

        Greg
