Why do you park in a driveway and drive on a park way? Why does Starkist Tuna have Charlie Tuna promote the eating of his own kind? Why do they call it a pair of pants? Shouldn't it be a pair of pant? Why do you always have one sock less when you fold your laundry even though you know you didn't leave it in the washer or dryer or lose it on the way? So why do nice guys always date witchy women? Why do we rely on rich politicians to make decisions for the common man? Why is it that rich people get everything given to them for free? I could go on and on.....

This group is for anyone who ever questions the world. It can be something that just confuses you, something that makes you laugh, something that makes you passionate, or something that just makes you mad. Come share your thoughts and ask the questions that you want to know the answers to and even answer questions for others.

Thank you for joining!

The common ingredient of a disproportionate number of featured events and "buzz" comments is alcohol. A high number of "editors' picks" are for events where excessive alcohol consumption is key. No listings I have viewed advise responsible drinking, in fact I've seen one photo where it is delivered through some kind of a funnel and tube device.

Many worthy social and cultural events are not given "editors' picks" distinction.

The emphesis on alcohol probably has to do with money, going's advertisers are primarily bars and clubs, and club culture.

I submit this new venue and the Going employee's "buzz" - http://boston.going.com/venue-144724;... - post as "proof" (pardon the pun).

Mostly Going kept changing their format to de-emphasize the group chats. I don't get it because it was what built a community, even though most of the lurkers didn't participate, for those who did it was a great way to get to know people before meeting them in person. The troll wars didn't help matters either.

As far as alternatives go, a bunch of folks jumped over to Facebook. If you want to find another social networking site to find events and a sense of community (although no real chat there either) try meetup.com. When I moved to Seattle, I landed on meetup and it's pretty good. Pretty much anything you want to do, there is a meetup for it - happy hours, singles, new to town, hiking, kayaking, dining out, wine tastings, cultural sh!t, and most importantly, beer meerups - at least that is the scene in Seattle - not sure how the boston scene is, but I'd guess not much different.

...but check out Facebook first. I can send a couple of links privately if you like.

Oh, and I just checked out their Bete site link. On a positive note, I think it is good that they let ppl beta the changes now instead of just changing everything one day. On the downside, groups seem to be more hidden than they are now. Oh well... we saw the writing on the wall!

I still get emails from going, and I go on mostly to look for events, because, to be honest you can't find nearly as many events on Facebook as you can on Going.

However, I don't find the groups here aren't as appealing as on Facebook. Maybe the older versions were better, but I wouldn't know that.

Why don't you start some topics?

I don't see why no one from the site just make an post right when the page loads up not just for members only. Thsy can sorry about the sudden changes in the past we were trying to make the site better and we will do our best to listen to you opinion on ways to get it back on track. Really I hsve facebook and I just about hate the site. It's to find people you already know. If you find someone you think you want to be friends with its asks something along the lines of "why be there friend if you don't know them"?. Hiding the groups was a bad idea because since there is not a chat area it's the closest people get to talking one on one other the messaging one on one which not everyone likes doing. I was here around the time when this site was still called hey lets go. I seen this site show up in articles and it's really sad to see whats happening. Not only do I see everyone asking "hey whats going on" but I can really tell the difference from what this site use to be to what it has become. Like they gave up or something. If my spelling is bad sorry they don't have a spell check and im a bad speller.

                Hi Sharon,

Thanks for your comments. With the updates we released on Monday, we were trying to strongly support groups.

                Specifically:
                1) The new City Buzz element on the home page. Take a look at the home page, you will see that your post (and mine) in this group are featured right at the top of the home page on the left side.

This is the first time that we are featuring talk from all across the site so high on the home page.

So, hopefully that should greatly contribute to the visibility and activity in groups.

                2) Groups are now featured in the very first navigation menu, Things to Do. They have their own section, it is in bold, and includes access to both browsing groups and My Groups.

We are always interested in your thoughts on these, and other things you would like to see.

                Regards,
                Roy

I'm pleased to see some participation by "management" here, but wonder why it does not encourage people to post their questions and comments in the "Going Feedback" group - http://boston.going.com/group-219;Goi...

Subsequent to the 5/20 site redesign there was a lot of bitching and moaning in QTW, but no constructive ideas were made.

Instead, people voted with their feet and stopped participating.

That group posts (public, not private, I would hope) appear on the home page in "buzz" shows management supports groups. The blame for decreased participation lies squarely with group members and owners / administrators, many of whom are AWOL.
